    • A copy of the archaeological find of the Slavyanka mound, Abai district, East Kazakhstan (V-IV centuries BC).
    • Akinak is a sakian straight-blade iron dagger with its cross and handle decorated with wolf images, while its pinnacle is decorated with eared gryphon protomais. Saks wore it on their belly, as Caucasian daggers are worn.
    • A weapon with such images was used in battle, but a large majority of akinaks found in sakian burials was not a weapon, but bronze models specially made for ritual purposes.
    • Apart from real animals, ancient artists depicted aerial creatures combining the features of several animals, in particular, of gryphons. Not infrequently, they also resorted to a technique that is called “zoological puzzles”.
