The famous artist Yeraly Ospanuly draws upon the pictorial traditions of nomadic peoples in his creative work. The fusion of the expression of the animal style of the Scythians, the statics of stone sculptures of the ancient Turks, the iconic ornaments of the applied art of the Kazakhs. All together contribute a uniqueness and originality, a kind of plasticity and rhythm, the spirit of the historical heritage of the Kazakh people to the artist's works. ARCHER A special culture of archery is inherent in the Turkic peoples. For example, the arrows in Qazaq quivers did not exceed the size of a sheep’s shoulder blade, and the archer himself was distinguished by unprecedented dexterity, vigilance and accuracy. Our ancestors were guided by these qualities when they recruited detachments to participate in fierce battles. Standing on the front line of the battlefield, the archers enjoyed exceptional respect of their comrades and commanders. There is a belief in the Kazakh worldview that a real man should be good at handling five types of weapons. It was taken as the basis of “Surmergen” poem (“The Shooter”). Its main character — a man with a diamond sword, a steel shield and a silver helmet — became a true folk hero, because he invariably abided by the sacred traditions and laws of the steppe.
